Last week the world lost a talented meteorologist and a former colleague of mine at AccuWeather. Carl Babinski, 53, lost his battle to cancer, passing away on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024.
Babinski was dedicated to his work as a forecaster and a radio broadcaster. He worked an overnight shift for more than 30 years and never had a complaint about the tough shift.
Not only was he helpful and knowledgeable as a senior meteorologist but he was also welcoming and kind to me when I started my career as a meteorologist on the overnight shift.
He once gifted me an incredibly thoughtful ornament for Christmas with an Irish blessing on it. Each year I hang it front and center near the top of my Christmas tree, and I always think of him.
I reread the blessing this morning, and it gave me chills.

May the road rise up to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the rain fall soft upon your fields
May the sun shine warm upon your face
until we meet again
An Irish Blessing
His family was his world, and my thoughts are with his wife Jill and his two children, Nathan and Allison, whom he adored.
Until we meet again, Carl. Rest in peace, my friend.
